Olympics 2002 - Mens Short Program

Sorry, no screenshots for them men and I also didn't write much, just short comments, I was just too lazy after staying up 2 nights in a row ;-). Will do screenshots for dance and ladies again though.

Abbreviations:t=toeloop, l=loop, s=salchow, f=flip, z=lutz, a=axel, sbs=side by side

Men's Short Program

Michael Weiss (USA)

Wore a nice glittery shirt. Started with a 4t-2t combination, but the quad was 2-footed. 3a clean, nice circular step sequence, 3z, good spin positions. The commentator claimed his 3a was 2-footed by the way, but I really don't think so. The choreography of this program is quite good and he looked quite on, good spark.

Sergei Davydov (Bulgaria)

He started his skate with a good 3z-3t combination. Then did a 3z and the 2a clean. His speed looked quite good and he also had good speed on his spins. He skated powerful, the choreography was ok, but nothing special.

Stephane Lambiel (Switzerland)

The young Swiss seemed very nervous during his premiere at the Olympics, still he landed all his jumps, with some shaky landings though: 3z-3t, 3f, 2a. His last combination spin is just sensational! Looked very cautious and nervous during his whole skate and the skate suffered from that, but the choreography itself is lovely.

Kyu Hyun Lee (Korea)

I've never seen this skater before or at least I don't remember. 3f-2t combination, the flip was on 2 feet. Overall skating looked slow as did his spins. 3t, 2a. He wore a boring black costume, but had blue streaks in his hair. The choreography of the program was quite nice, but he was lacking flow and musicality.

Vakhtang Murvanidze (Gheorgia)

3a fall, 3z, 2a. Interesting footwork, ok spins. He's a powerful skater with good expression and I liked the choreography of his program, I think he was skating to Hungarian folk music.

Margus Hernits (Estonia)

He popped his axel, then did a 3z, interesting step sequence, 2a, some of his spins were travelling. Expression ok, orientalic program.

Roman Skorniakov (Uzbekhistan)

3a-2t combination, he nearly fell on the axel and 2-footed the toeloop. 3z, 2a, nice combination spin. He skated to the music "Tango Jalousie", the program had quite nice choreography.

Brian Joubert (France)

4t-2t combination, he put the hand down on the landing of the 4t and stumbled out of the landing of the 2t. 3a, stumbled out of landing, 3f. Speed looked good. His skating style is a little stiff overall, but the choreography itself isn't bad, a bit too plain maybe.

Georghe Chiper (Romania)

3a-2t with problems on the landings. 3z, 2a fall. Some spins travelling. Very dramatic, extravagant, intense choreography, voidy! Very creative. I liked it.

Anthony Liu (Australia)

4t-2t combination with good height on the jumps. His spins could be faster, 3z, 2x. Nice dramatic choreography to music of Pearl Harbour. Good skate for him!

Yoseuke Takeuchi (Japan)

Screwed up 3z, popped axel, 3f. Weird costume and hectic, dramatic choreography and music.

Chengjang Li (China)

4t great. 3a-3t, 2a. Looked fast and powerful. Quite nice choreography, presented well. Great, clean performance for him!

Alexei Yagudin (Russia)

The choreography of his program still includes throwing ice around. I would like this short program even better if he had gotten rid of that. 4t-3t, 3a, 3z. He seemed a little tense at the beginning of his program, but the second half was great.

Takeshi Honda (Japan)

4t-3t, great 3a, 3z. A great performance for him! The program itself is ok, but his skating style doesn't really do much for me.

Dmitri Dimitrenko (Ukraine)

He's still wearing that weird costume with all the flowers on the shoulders. 3a-2t, but he stumbled out of the axel and put his hand down. He doubled the next jump, I'm not sure whether it was a lutz or flip. 2a nice. I really liked the choreography of the second half of the program, funky music and extravagant, creative movements.

Yunfei Li (China)

4t-2t (hand down on 4t), 2a with knee wrap, 3z. Ok program, I honestly didn't pay too much attention to him, I was tired and lost concentration.

Evgeny Plushenko (Russia)

Unfortunately he fell on the 4t and so didn't have a combination. 3a, 3z. I was really impressed by the step sequence in his short program.

Min Zhang (China)

I didn't like his costume (gold and white). Nice 3a, 4t falls, 2z. Spins travelling. Choreography rather boring.

Timothy Goebel (USA)

4s-3t, 3a, 3f. Great performance. He looked really inspired this night and while his expression is still lacking and his movements still are too stiff, this was about the best I've ever seen him skate, very enjoyable!

Ivan Dinev (Bulgaria)

4t fall, 3a saved landing, 3z. Nice classical style of skating, good choreography, I enjoyed this program.

Zoltan Toth (Hungary)

4t-3t (quad 2-footed), 3z fall, 2a. Soft lyrical program.

Angelo Dolfini (Italy)

3t-3t, 2z, 2a. He only just learned doing triple flips and lutzes in practice, he's probably the weakest skater in the whole field jump-wise, but his presentation is really noticable and he's a very musical skater. Nice sit spin.

Alexander Abt (Russia)

4t-3t, 3a landing saved, 3z (slight knee wrap). I love the music and choreography of this program. Good expression. The commentator claimed he didn't have enough revolations during one of his spin combinations? I didn't rewatch.

Todd Eldredge (USA)

4t-3t, the quad was 2-footed and he stumbled out of the landing of the 3t. 3a fall. 3z. Music was Carmina Burana. Didn't note down anything else down. I wish he had skated better :-(

Frederic Dambier (France)

Pops axel, 4s-2t, 3f. Ok program, a little boring overall.

Kevin van der Perren (Belgium)

3a-3t, 3z, 2a. Clean skate! Good presentation, he's a musical skater and had a great skate here. Was very happy afterwards. Whenever he skates the commentators claim he started skating at age 13, but I think in his ISU profile it says 11, which is more likely IMO (and still impressing!)

Sergei Rylov (Azerbaidchan)

2f-3t, 2a, stumbling out of 3z. Boring program, presentation a little lacking. Nice music, still the program seemed to last very long.

Elvis Stojko (Canada)

4t-3t (stumbled out of landing of 4t), 3a, 3z with a very long entry. Pretty nice, entertaining program.
