Ladies Short Program
Stephanie Zhang (Australia)
I unfortunately missed her skate, because I thought the broadcast would start some minutes later. I only saw the slow motion replay, the commentators mentioned two mistakes though.
Fumie Suguri (Japan)
She started with a 3z-2t combination, the landing of the toeloop was a bit shaky. 3f and 2a were clean. She has a beautiful lyrical program to the music of "Ave Maria", but she seemed a little tentative.
Julia Lebedeva (Armenia)
She fell on the 3l. Then popped the lutz and the toeloop. Her skating style looks a little clumsy and she was slow, her footwork sequence looked a little messy. She landed the 2a cleanly, but overall a bad skate for her.
Mojca Kopac (Slovenia)
She did a 3z-2t combination, but put the hand down on the lutz. A clean, but low 2a and a 3t as solo jump. Very nice spin at the end. The program had a jungle theme, good choreography and she interprets the music very well. She reacted very happy afterwards and seemed very contented with herself :)
Sarah Hughes (USA)
She started with a nice 2a, then did a 3z-2t very close to the boards and the lutz didn't have an outside edge take-off. 3f. She seemed rather slow and tense today and her problems with the jumps seemed to be worse than at the beginning of the season, she had skated this program much better at Skate Canada.
Sasha Cohen (USA)
3z-2t, 3f, 2a. Pretty good height on jumps. A lovely program, good speed, astonishingly beautiful positions on her spirals and spins and wonderful interpretation of the music. I have to say I have a hard time thinking of a female skater that I have ever enjoyed watching more than her. This was the hightlight of the whole evening.
Tatiana Malinina (Uzbekhistan)
3z-2t, 3f landing saved, 2a. Her jumps were basically clean, but overall her skating seemed shaky, but the program is beautiful and lyrical. She was really happy with her skate afterwards.
Bit-Na Park (Korea)
She fell on the 3z, but landed a clean 3s and 2a. She skated to music from "Schindlers List" and to "4 Seasons". The music was beautiful, but the program itself a bit boring and she's not very expressive.
Elena Liashenko (Ukraine)
3z-2t, stumbling out of the toeloop. Popped the flip, but did a clean 2a. Nice zestful program.
Julia Sebestyen (Hungary)
3f, 3z-2t great height on lutz, 2a. Very powerful skater, her presentation is really good too, very improved in comparison to former years. I liked the choreography of the program and she did a great Bielman spin at the end. Fantastic skate for her!
Vanessa Gusmeroli (France)
3z-2t, 3f, 2a. Jazzy zestful program, good spin combination with great Bielmann spin, good speed, nice footwork. Also a very good skate for her.
Maria Butyrskaya (Russia)
3f, 3z-2t, 2a. She also skated a clean short program, the jumps were only slightly shaky. Beautiful lyrical program.
Irina Slutskaya (Russia)
3z-2l, 2a, 3f, good fast spin. Clean skate for her, a very good program, powerful, with an interesting choreography, loved it! I thought she was clearly the best tonight technically.
Julia Soldatova (Belarus)
2f, 3z, 2a landed slightly on forward. Quite nice choreography and good presentation.
Michelle Kwan (USA)
3z-2t, 2a, 3f little shaky revolutions not fully completed. Clean program, very good.
Elina Kettunen (Finland)
She unfortunately didn't have a skate as good as at Europeans, she first stumbled out of her lutz (I'm not sure, but I think it was only a double), then doubled her flip, but was able to do a clean 2a. The program and her skating style itself are very nice though.
Jennifer Robinson (Canada)
She was wearing a pretty stupid costume about which even the commentators started slandering. The program was nice and playful though and I liked her expression. Her elements were 3z-2t, 3f, 2a. The jumps could have been higher and she had a slight knee wrap on some. Very good final spin.
Suzana Babiakova (Slovakia)
She skated a lyrical program that she presented well, very fluent and with good speed, I liked it. Her elements were 3z-2t (the lutz 2-footed), 3f (also 2-footed) and 2a.
Idora Hegel (Croatia)
She fell on the 3z, but completed a 3t and the 2a. Her blades were golden, which was quite distracting, since they were shimmering strangely, at least on tv. The choreography of her program was a little strange, but she had an interesting step sequence.
Yoshie Onda (Japan)
She has chosen interesting music for her short program, a fast monotonous techno piece, really cool. Unfortunately she stumbled out of her 3z and couldn't do a combination, but she did clean 3f and 2a. She has a wonderful powerful program, skated fast and presented it well.
Roxana Luca (Romania)
She did a 2z-2t, then 3l, 2a. She skated quite zestful and elegant, I liked her expression. She finished a little behind the music. She was very happy in the Kiss & Cry about qualifying for the long program.
Victoria Volchkova (Russia)
She did a 3z (overrotated)-2t, a 2f and 2a (little on forward). Her program is beautiful, but she seemed tentative. Nice spins. Her costume was gorgeous (and I think she has the best body of all the ladies).
Vanessa Giunchi (Italy)
She did a 3s (with knee wrap), a 3f (hand down)-2t, very nice spin, 2a. She has a very "different" style of skating and always interesting choreographies, I like it.
Silvia Fontana (Italy)
She did a 3z (underrotated) -2t, 3f with knee wrap (First time she did a 3f in the short program I heard), nice 2a. Her program is fantastic, a fiery latin number and her expression is just wonderful. She was very happy with her skate afterwards and the audience loved her.
Galina Maniachenko (Ukraine)
She started with a 3z (stumble out)-2t, then nearly fell on the 3f and did a clean 2a. She skated to beautiful music from "Schindlers List". Her skating style is wonderful, soft, fluent, graceful and yet powerful, but this time the program suffered from her mistakes.
Laetitia Hubert (France)
She also stumbled out of the lutz in her 3z-2t combination, but did a clean 3f and 2a. She skated fast and with good flow, but I found the program a little boring.
Sarah Meier (Switzerland)
She was the last skater of the evening and did a great job! 3z-2t, nice 3f, 2a (little shaky). The choreography of her program is very nice and she presented it very well.
