General comments: Overall the niveau of the ladies short program was pretty good, clean performances from the top 3, no really disastrous programs from the others. I got to see a lot of skaters that I had only heard of so far, some were a pleasant surprise, some I wasn't that impressed with. My favorite short programs were the ones from Yoshie Onda and Silvia Fontana.

Andrea Diewald (Germany)
Wore a green costume with some glitter, didn't like it. Her music was "Xotica", egyptian style. 2z-2t, falls on the 3f (? not sure, can't read my notes anymore), clean 2a. She seems nervous, her presentation is nothing special, rather weak.
TM: 3.6-4.1
Pres: 4.5-4.8

Tatiana Malinina (Uzbekhistan)
Light blue costume, nice cut. Uses some beautiful piano music. 3z-stumbles out of it-2toe, problems with her second jump (2f?), clean 2a. Her spins and spiral were good, I wasn't impressed by her footwork. Very lyrical, soft, elegant skating style, good presentation. She's much more impressive live than on TV! I never enjoyed her much on tv, but I really liked watching her live, she's a very expressive skater.

Marianne Dubuc (Canada)
Black costume. Nice music: "Introduction and Rondo Capricioso by Saint Saens". Her spin travels noticable. 3z-2t overrotated. 3f fall. Her spins seem rather weak. 2a clean. Weak presentation, nothing noticable about her program.
TM: 3.5-4.4
Pres: 4.5-4.9

Yoshie Onda (Japan)
Very nice costume, the left half is dark and light grey, the right half is red and yellow. Music: techno. 3z-2t, 3f, 3a very good. Fast spins, travelling though. The music choice suits her well. Presentation is rather weak, not much choreography in this short program, but she makes the best of it. Skates very powerful and dynamic, good height on jumps, looks very fast. I was very impressed with her.
TM: 5.2-5.7
Pres: 5.0-5.7

Silvia Fontana (Italy)
Black dress with some orange flowers. Latin music. 3z-2t, I'm not sure about her triple, she did it in the corner and I really thought it was a 3t, but I don't know why she would only do a toeloop, so I suppose it was really a flip. Anyway whatever it was, it was 2-footed. Nice 2a. She looked fast and her spins were good. She put all her jumps in the VERY beginning of her program. She looked dynamic and had some interesting footwork. I thought her presentation was the best of the evening, the style really suits her and she was just on fire! Great expression and choreography. The audience loved her program, she got a huge applaus. Her second mark was booed. I think her presentation marks should at least have been higher than Yoshi Onda's.
TM: 4.4-4.7

Susanna Pöykiö (Finland)
Nice brown costume. Nice music, the ISU profile says it was "Mondo Exotica & Woodoo Dreams". 3z-2t, 3f, 2a 2-footed. Her presentation was nice, but nothing outstanding, it seemed a little to rehearsed, not really that natural.

Anne-Sophie Calvez (France)
Simple costume in gray and silver. The music was something powerful, quite interesting. Long posing before she really starts skating. Only spirals in first minute. 3t-2t (not sure about my notes), 3f, nearly falls on 2a. Has a quite elegant skating style. All jumps were in the second half of the program.
TM: 4.3-4.8
Pres: 4.8-5.1

Angela Nikodinov (USA)
Simple red dress. Piano music "No one gives up on love". 3z-2t, 3f, 2a. Very elegant and smooth, beautiful choreography, I love to watch her. Looked confident and secure. All her programs seem to look pretty much the same, but that style of course really fits her skating perfectly. So far I haven't minded.
TM: 5.4-5.7
Pres: 5.5-5.8

Jennifer Kirk (USA)
Turquoise dress. Music "Putting on the Ritz". 3z (flutz) - she falls. 3f, with wrapped leg, 2a. Her style is very balletic, and she did a good job with highlighting the music. Still I didn't find her presentation all that convincing, it looks rather rehearsed sometimes, not too natural. I think she still looks a little juniorish. Her jumps are higher, but still among the lowest of the whole field. I wasn't too impressed with her. But she has chosen nice music with a nice choreography, that suits her quite well. She doesn't have that much presence on the ice as some of the other skaters.

Maria Butyrskaya (Russia)
She wore a great blue costumes with some flowers. Quite a departure from her usual white dresses, I really liked it. Her music was "Melody of the white Nights". 3f, 3z-2t, 2a. The jumps looked secure and confident, only the 2a was a little shaky. I found her landings to be improved since last year, not as stiff in the knees anymore. The choreography is beautiful and she was elegant as usual. I would like her to use an a little more powerful choreography and music in one of her programs, either short of long, since I think that would suit her well, for example something like her "Habanera" exhibition program. She was definitely the best in the short program and got a huge applaus before and after her skate.
TM: 5.4-5.8
Pres: 5.7-5.9

Kristina Oblasova (Russia)
Nice costume in rosé and light blue. Some Russian sounding music. I thought the costume didn't really fit the music. 2a, 3z-2t (3z was overrotated), 3f. Her jumps aren't really that high. She seemed quite fast. She's a rather elegant skater, still looks a little awkward though, but I liked her presentation already better than for example the one of Viktoria Volchkova. Did a nice Bielmann spin towards the end. Overall I was not too impressed with her skating, but she looks promising. She looks much taller than the other ladies and is quite beautiful.
