Nations Cup 2001 - Ladies Long Program

General Comments: I didn't always note down all the elements for all the ladies. Sometimes I only noted down elements that had a mistake or that were performed exceptionally good. If an element isn't mentioned, it usually was performed clean. If an element is mentioned without further comments, it was usually also clean.

Abbreviations: t=toeloop, l=loop, s=salchow, f=flip, z=lutz, a=axel

Silvia Fontana (Italy)
Costume in black and neon red. Her music was "Carmen", not the most creative choice, but it suits her very well. 3t, 2t, 3f, then a couple of jumps with troubles, I didn't note down any details, 2a, 2s, 3l. Her presentation and the choreography weren't as good as in the SP, but still good. A nice program, but nothing outstanding. She looks much younger and prettier in real than on TV by the way.
TM: 4.7-4.8
Pres: 5.0-5.2

Marianne Dubuc (Canada)
Wore a purple dress that looked ok. Music: "Rondo Capricioso". 3l-2footed, 3f-fall. A clean triple?. 2a, 2t, 3z, 3s. She really should try to do more with her arms, she seemed to skate with them stretched out to the side during about 80% of the program. Definitely a lack of choreography and she didn't look very elegant either, so there wasn't much noticable about this skate.
TM: 3.9-4.4
Pres: 4.0-4.6

Anne-Sophie Calvez (France)
Boring black dress with some silver. Nice piano music. 2a, 3f, 3z-2t, the lutz was 2-footed. Nice spin. 3l-2footed. 3t, doubles next jump (a flip?), 3s-falls. Very nice choreography, good presentation, looked rather elegant. Her skating looked rather fluent.
TM: 4.2-4.9
Pres: 4.4-5.0

Susanna Pöykiö (Finland)
Nice plain beige dress. Violin Concerts. I found the music rather hectic and nagging. 3z-2t, 2f, 3t-2t, 2a fall, 2l, 2s, 3l. She's a quite elegant skater. Her presentation was ok, she wasn't very fast. The music was finished before she was finished with skating.
TM: 4.5-4.9
Pres: 4.8-5.1

Andrea Diewald (Germany)
Ugly dark blue dress with some gold. She looks kind of clumsy and slow. 2z, falls on a triple (can't read my notes), 3s - 2footed, 2a, 3l - 2footed, 3t, doubles last jump. She's not very expressive and there's nothing outstanding in the choreography.
TM: 3.8-4.4
Pres: 4.1-4.6

Jennifer Kirk (USA)
Ok dark blue costume. Her music was something orientalic. 3z-2t, 3t-3t, 3f - little shaky, 3l with wrapped leg, 3z, 3s. Again skated quite balletic and elegant, but not very fast. Nice choreography. She lacks power. The presentation was quite nice, but again didn't really look natural sometimes, she's not so expressive.
TM: 5.1-5.5
Pres: 5.1-5.5

Kristina Oblasova (Russia)
Pink dress, didn't like the color. Music "El Trish". Singles her axel and nearly falls. 3z (hand down)-2t, 3f, 2a - leans forward on landing. Nice Bielmann spin that looks easy for her. 3l - wrapped leg, 3z, 3t, 2s. She's quite elegant, good presentation and a very nice music that she interpretated well. Some nice choreographic ideas, some parts of the choreography don't look that natural, but rather rehearsed.
TM: 4.8-5.2
Pres: 4.8-5.3

Yoshie Onda (Japan)
Beautiful dress in light blue and dark blue. Powerful dramatic music, later a softer part. 3a - falls. 3z-2t, 3l, 3f, 3s, 3l, 3t, 2a, 2a. Her skating looks very powerful, she's fast and dynamic. Her presentation is not that bad, she's a quite elegant skater, but the choreography was too plain and has to get better. Again I was very impressed by her, she's a pleasure to watch.
TM: 5.3-5.7
Pres: 4.9-5.5

Angela Nikodinov (USA)
Nice yellowish dress. 3z-2t, 3t-2t, beautiful camel spin, 3f, l popped, l popped, 2t, 2t. She started of very good, but broke apart after the first mistake on the loop. She was the skater who looked the most confident during competition and practices, I think if she had stayed clean in the long, she could have won the competition. Her skate looked graceful, soft and smooth, she's a very graceful skater, has good flow and is rather fast, strong spins with beautiful positions.
TM: 4.9-5.5
Pres: 4.5-5.7

Maria Butyrskaya (Russia)
White dress. She's one of the few skaters, who looks good with white dresses, maybe because of her beautiful tanned skin. Music: "17 Moments in Spring" again. Gets a huge applause. 3f, 3z - 2footed, 2t-euler-3s, 3z-2t, 2l, 3l, 2a. Really beautiful program and I love her style of skating. She didn't look as good as in the short program though, still a deserved win. It will be interesting to see how her new long program looks like. I'd like to see her use a program with a little more choreography, more arm movements and some innovative elements, like she did in some of her exhibitions.
TM: 5.2-5.7
Pres: 5.6-5.9

Tatiana Malinina (Uzbekhistan)
A dress in black and silver, I didn't like it. Music: "Sweet Sorrow". 2z, 3f (hand down), 3l might have been slightly 2-footed, nice camel spin, 3t - shaky, 3s very nice, 3z - fall, 2a - nearly falls, 2a-2t, ends with a nice spin. I really liked her interpretation of the music, she seems to have a natural musicality, very lyrical and expressive program, with some nice little details. I was really impressed with her skating in Gelsenkirchen, although she had many problems with the jumps.
TM: 4.6-5.2
Pres: 5.0-5.4
