Bofrost Cup 2003 - Men LP
Tomas Werner was wearing a dark red velvet costume and skated to some jazzy sounding music. He fell on the 3axel, but I was instantly impressed with his nice detailed choreography. He was a bit slow though. The music changed to some perky jazzy stuff now. His jumps were 3t (not sure, maybe it was only a 2), 2axel, 3flip-2toeloop, 3loop, popped lutz, 2salchow. The program was really cool to watch though, because he had such nice choreography that was very detailed and went very well with the music, plus he actually skated it to the beat. Ok most of the choreography was arm movements I think, but they were really beautiful and he displayed great musicality, especially during the soft parts of the music. I also really liked his serpentine footwork that was totally in time with the music. There are really a lot of things to like about this skater. Negative points to the program of course were the jump content, that his speed needs improvement and that his spins were just ok.
Alexei Vassilievsky unfortunately had a bad day with his jumps, even for his standards :fragile: Jump content was: 3t, 3axel fall, 2z-2t, 3s, 2l, 3a fall, 2f, 2z touch down. He wore a black/orange costume and skated to "The Mexican" soundtrack. But even if the performance was bad, I still really enjoyed his voidy straightline footwork that is just adorable and his style.
Kristoffer Berntsson seems to be in much better shape than at Nebelhorn Trophy now. He wore a black and white costume and his music sounded kind of soundtrack-ish and was changing between soft-drama-soft-drama. His jump content: 3a, 3f-3t, popped lutz, 3a-1t, popped flip, 3s, 3l, 3t. He did a rather good job varying his speed. I thought the soft parts of his music suited his skating style much better than the ultra-drama. Especially during the straightline step sequence I felt that the dramatic music was overpowering him a bit. I really enjoy his soft style. He had a good skate and the choreography of his program is overall good, even if I thought that some choreographical elements were a bit  (for example some arm movements that looked a bit "thrown in" and odd).
Silvio Smalun has kept his LP from last year, but since that one is so cool and so much fun to watch, I really couldn't care less. Jump content: 3a nice, 4t fall (not close), 3f nicely done out of steps, 3f-3t fall on toeloop, 3l, 2z, 3s, 3t. His speed and spins were quite good overall. He screwed up the entry into his flying sit on the final spin and I think his footwork could be a bit more impressive. No reason to write much about the program, everybody should have seen it by now and it's not really possible to describe it anyway. As always very voidy :D
Gregor Urbas with his Tango LP that we also had already seen at Nebelhorn Trophy. His jumps: 3z - he basically landed it, but had no run-out at all and put his second foot down directly after the landing, 3a, 3f....3t (that's what my notes say, I don't remember whether he was doing a combo or a sequence or just some jumps rather close together), 3a fall, 2l, 3z-2t, 3s. What I liked about his choreography is that he used a lot of whole body movements and his timing (with the music) was good overall. His straightline footwork was a bit slow and I found his Tango music a bit monotonous over the whole 4 minutes, it was a good skate and he expressed it well, but overall the program was a bit boring, because the music and choreography was always the same stylistically.
Jeffrey Buttle is really overall just SO adorable. Steffi and I were overcome with the urgent need to refer to him as OUR Jeffrey Buttle, but then we would never dare to steal him from MINAM ;) Also he oddly enough reminded us of a whole lot of comic/cartoon/movie figures :o , Barney Geroellheimer (even without Flintstones costume ;) , I forgot his English last name again), Tim from "Tim & Struppi" (a figure from a French comic strip, sorry I don't know how it's called in English) or as Steffi claimed there is also some serious resemblence with the little boy from the tv series "Flipper". Most of those comparisons come solely from his adorable hairstyle I suppose  , which we both really lurved. Anyway, unfortunately Jeff was relatively jump-less at Bofrost Cup, at least he seems to have forgotten his 3axel at home. He did: 3f nice, 4t fall, 2a, 1a, 3l, 3s, 3z-2t (bit shaky). Other than that he had a really cool spread eagle, an interesting combo spin, a very nice MITF sequence of spirals and Ina Bauers, a straightline sequence with lots of turns, generally interesting spin positions, very good flow and gliding, nice variations of speed and an interesting choreography. I have to admit I'm not crazy about the music choice and theme though, at least I'm not 100% sure whether I like it or not.
Stefan Lindemann started his program with a 4t on which he had a tiny little bit of a touch down and then did a 3axel (maybe slightly 2footed, I'm not sure). His other elements were a fast straightline step sequence, high 3z, 3l, combo spin with a shaky entry, popped axel, 2f-3t (turn out), 3s, 3f fall. His speed was good overall, especially also during the step sequences, which maybe weren't all that difficult though.
Overall we saw a lot of skates that weren't bad, but unfortunately no really good ones, but it was interesting to watch overall.
